Unit 12 — Estimation and scientific interpretation
Wednesday 18 November 2026, 12:30–16:00
Specify the scientific quantity you want to estimate, then communicate magnitude, uncertainty and practical meaning. A separate, wholly invented cress germination example supports the worked lesson; project groups choose and justify their own quantities to estimate and analyses.
This class follows the morning make-up session. Bring your morning notes or draft question if available. Essential teaching takes place in class.
Worked code uses lme4 for mixed models, performance for model checks and marginaleffects for predicted outcomes and comparisons. All data preparation and package calls are shown directly.

Four groups of three. The student project folder supplies runnable teaching code, invented tray data and executed lesson output. Project workshop decisions remain the responsibility of each group, with instructor consultation.
Recap · 60-minute consolidation · After-class slides
Refine scientific targets, analysis decisions and reporting in your existing draft. Bring code/data, the draft and a consulting question on 25 November. Project drafting is included in the time cap.
