14-01 · Present your project and give useful feedback

Explain your design, result and follow-up experiment; review classmates’ evidence.

Start here

Presentations are on Wednesday 2 December, 12:30–16:00. Work in your established group of three. Bring the revised project report, follow-up design and rehearsal notes from Unit 13. The proposed presentation is 8 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of questions and a 2-minute transition per group. Every member contributes and answers at least one directed question about design, model rationale, checks or interpretation.

Presentation brief · Six-slide outline · Final checklist · Peer feedback sheet

These are educational project outputs and formative review criteria. Confirmed final assessment and submission requirements will be communicated separately; this page sets no grade or deadline.

Prepare from existing work

Use one primary outcome, one main comparison, one main figure and one sensitivity comparison. Explain the question, known design, animals or groups that received separate treatment assignments, or were selected separately for observation, distribution used to describe the outcome and model structure, a plausible alternative, diagnostic decisions, estimate/interval, limitations and feasible follow-up experiment. Trace revisions from the original analysis plan; defensible choices need not match one instructor formula. Show the prospective target and two assumptions in your simulation; say what the simulation omits.

The project brief gives the full workflow and four fallback cases. Their data are synthetic teaching examples. Label them in the talk/report; your fitted result is not a finding from the source paper. Use correct attribution if you analysed another dataset. Observational associations need cautious interpretation.

Divide speaking sensibly and make sure each member can explain the whole project. Bring offline slides/report and the main figure. You can present from the report or printed figure if projection fails. Reuse Unit 13 improvements; no new major analysis is required.

Present and review

The 12:30–16:00 session starts with criteria 12:30–12:40; Groups A/B 12:40–13:10; feedback 13:10–13:40; break 13:40–13:55; Groups C/D 13:55–14:25; feedback and cross-project discussion 14:25–14:55; break 14:55–15:10.

A reviews B, B reviews C, C reviews D, D reviews A. Everyone listens to all talks. Rotate target recorder, design/check recorder and question editor. Record evidence for the question, units/model, checks, meaningful estimate, follow-up design and communication. Give one evidenced strength, one consequential question and one feasible revision. Send your completed sheet to the presenting group through the agreed classroom route.

Continue in class

After the final break complete the design challenge and reflection. No additional heavy after-class assignment is set for this unit.

For future power, use simglm; the worked pen-trial script shows the direct calls. Adapt the treatment assignments, outcome, assumptions and fitted analysis to your proposed study. Report failed fits and uncertainty caused by using a limited number of simulated experiments. Use lme4 for mixed models, performance for checks, and marginaleffects for predictions and useful comparisons.
