One question through the whole course

Design → simulate → analyse → interpret → communicate

Four groups of three. One primary outcome and one main comparison.

Analyse existing evidence, then propose a better follow-up experiment.

Four cases to choose from

Case Outcome
Calf feeding Growth over time
Broiler diets Pen feed conversion ratio
Pig feeding Diarrhoea risk
Horse shelter use Repeated observations and weather

Project brief and case links

Gather information before fitting

What outcome matters? How much change would be useful?

Where was treatment allocated? Which observations share conditions?

What is documented, assumed or still unknown?

Week 42: at most 2½ hours each

Minutes Task
30 Individual revision using the Unit 6 materials
40 Group discussion and provisional scope
45 Divide the background-information search
35 Assemble one page with three unresolved questions

No new model fitting. Bring the brief on 21 October.

You have supported time to develop it

21 October: scope feedback. 28 October: design and metadata audit.

4 November: question and data confirmed.

11 November: justify an analysis plan before fitting.

18 November: fit and check in the morning. Estimate and interpret in the afternoon.

25 November: exchange reports, review designs and rehearse.

2 December: present and give peer feedback.

What the project will produce

One-page design brief; justified analysis plan; short reproducible Quarto report.

Explain your model choices; show one main figure, uncertainty and a limitation.

Follow-up design with a small prospective simulation.

8-minute presentation + 5 minutes of questions on 2 December.

Agree your next step

Choose a provisional case and divide the information search.

Use the week 42 task.

Keep one uncertainty to discuss with the instructor.
