# Synthetic cress tray teaching study

All observations and study details are invented. No paper, real experiment or biological efficacy claim supplies these values. This is distinct from every assessed project case.

Forty-eight trays each receive 25 cress seeds. Six imagined sowing batches each contain eight trays. Within each batch, randomly assign four trays to pulse watering and four to mist watering, then count seeds that have sprouted on day 10. Each tray is observed once. Seed positions share a tray environment, so watering is allocated to trays, not independently to seeds. There are 24 tray allocations per watering condition and 1200 seed outcomes aggregated into 48 rows.

The invented data allow trays to have different chances of sprouting, then draw a count out of 25 seeds for each tray. The lesson model allows the same kind of variation among trays. This is a teaching choice for this setting; it does not establish which model suits a different study.

| Column | Unit/type | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| tray_id | ID | T01–T48; one unique ID per count row |
| batch | category | B1–B6; four trays per watering condition in every batch |
| watering | category | pulse or mist; allocated at tray level |
| seeds_sown | seeds | 25 in every tray; denominator |
| seeds_sprouted | seeds | distinct sprouted seeds, 0–25, numerator |
| day | days after sowing | 10 for every row; one endpoint |

No values are missing by construction. A real study would need operational definitions, measurement procedures, independence/interference assumptions, meaningful-effect justification and missingness information. The hypothetical methods here are not recommendations about growing cress.
