# Provenance and reuse

Data status: **synthetic, generated for this course using a fixed R seed**. These data support learning and are unsuitable for claims about animal production or the source authors’ findings. All values and the teaching design are invented.

Topic inspiration: [Xu, Noel, Lauridsen, Lærke & Canibe (2023)](https://doi.org/10.3389/fvets.2023.1147165).

Original open methods describe 46 piglets from 15 sows, preweaning diet applied to litters, paired littermates in pens after weaning, and feed crossed with E. coli challenge. The invented case instead randomizes postweaning pens to two feeds, has no experimental infection, and summarizes any diarrhoea over seven days. Never transfer its analysis or conclusions to the published trial.

Source review date: 6 October 2026. The instructor retains the private generation script and source evaluation. No original raw dataset was acquired; an open article is not automatically an open dataset. The case can be used immediately without waiting for author contact. If original raw data become available, obtain the correct reuse licence and metadata, then recheck allocation, hierarchy, outcome definitions and the model.

These newly generated materials are supplied for use and adaptation in this course; retain the synthetic-data label and source attribution. This does not change rights/licences of the cited papers or any original datasets. Papers are linked, not bundled; their own licences apply.
